Background
Remittances account for almost 10% of the Philippines’ GDP. BDO Unibank is one of the commercial banks that generates the largest overseas Filipino remittances.
At the start of the pandemic in 2020, there was a decline in remittances sent to the Philippines and BDO Remit’s non-digital process prevented remitters from using their services.
The goal is to create a digital process for BDO Remit customers to use to successfully remit money in a convenient, safe, and secure manner.
What is BayaniPay?
BayaniPay is a financial gateway developed for global Filipinos. Powered by BDO Remit, BayaniPay offers transparent and worry-free transactions users can rely on when sending money to the Philippines.
Understanding the users
User Behaviors
Users regularly send remittances to their family in the Philippines (family link, support, aid, etc)
Users are close to Filipino Communities.
When do remittances happen
Monthly – Regular support tied to salaries
School season – Before semesters start
Holidays – Especially Christmas, New Year, Holy Week

We streamlined and digitized the registration process for BDO Remit — faster, simpler, and user-friendly.

Getting requirements needed by BDO through their forms
Using Veriff - Identity Verification
Listing all needed information to get from the users
Documenting competitor reviews
Creating an onboarding process based on the most efficient user journey
Driving product exposure and feedback through partner-aligned events.

Conducted usability tests post-launch to enhance UI and streamline user experience in preparation for the next release.
